A Healthy Morning Routine
In committing to a daily a yoga practice, we have the opportunity to make other lasting changes that support our health, and package our practice in an unshakeable routine that provides structure, regularity, and rhythm to our day. Here are some basic suggestions for establishing a healthy routine around your practice, based in the wisdom of Ayurveda, India’s ancient science of life.
Set the tone for your day with an affirmation, prayer or mini-gratitude practice. Before opening your eyes upon waking, you can sweeter the flavor of your day by choosing your first conscious thoughts.
Scrape your tongue with a spoon or a tongue scraper and brush your teeth to clean out toxins from the body and mouth.
Drink a large glass of warm water, with a gentle hint of lemon, ginger, cardamom or a mint leaf to continue the detoxing process and encourage a healthy morning bowel movement.
Do your meditation and yoga practice with awareness and intention.
Give yourself a nourishing oil massage.
Take a shower.
Eat a healthy breakfast. If you drink coffee or tea, try not to until you have done the previous parts of the routine.
