Come foraging!
CLASS FULL! If you would like to get on the waiting list, or inquire about upcoming dates, please contact me here
Join me for a walk in the woods to learn the basics of mushroom identification and ecology, with a focus on the safe, ethical, and sustainable foraging of edible mushrooms. This program is not open to the general public, only by direct invitation from Sita.
We will run the program rain or shine on Sunday, February 11, 2024
Plan for the day:
10 am - Meet up with mushroom and human friends for an engaging intro ID talk and icebreaker
11 am - Foraging hike
1 pm - What did we find!?
1:30 - Cooking demo and tasting
2 pm - Closing
Location
Because conditions change quickly and I will want to find the most abundant spots for you, I will send the exact meetup location the day before our gathering, but it will most likely be somewhere in Pt. Reyes. I will set up a temporary WhatsApp group to communicate in the days leading up to the event.
Reciprocity
Cost for the program is sliding-scale based on your financial capacity, $50-100. Your payment will contribute to a donation to the place we will be foraging as well as to the Coast Miwok Tribal Council to support the rematriation of Coast Miwok lands to its original stewards.
What to bring
a basket (we like baskets because they help spread the spores of any mushrooms we collect)
a few plastic clamshell boxes (the kind that berries are often sold in) for more delicate mushrooms - optional
layers of clothing and rain gear for unpredictable weather (it can get hot when we are hiking but might otherwise be cold and potentially wet)
a charged cell phone
a day pack
a small pocket knife (if you don’t have one you can bring a small kitchen knife safely wrapped and stored in your backpack)
comfortable hiking shoes and any hiking gear you may need
snacks and lunch
an open and curious mind!
you are welcome to bring a mushroom ID book if you have one, and if you don’t have one but would like to get one, I recommend Mushrooms of the Redwood Coast
Refunds and cancellations
I will cap the group at 10 for each date and set up a waiting list. If you cancel up to 3 days before the event AND I am able to fill your spot, or if you can give your spot to a friend, then I am happy to offer you a refund (minus a 10% fee because my website takes a non-refundable percentage). If you cancel within 3 days before the event OR I am not able to fill your spot, I will not be able to offer a refund.
